$6 Blush & Bronzer

Before I tell you how great these are, please understand I’m not someone who recommends things lightly. Everything I praise or tell others to try is something I tried time and time and time over, over a long period of time. There is a huge influx of makeup in the last few years and it’s getting more and more expensive. I’m definitely guilty of overspending on beauty and I have a massive collection.

So when I tell you that a $6 blush and bronzer from ELF cosmetics is incredible, I really mean it. If you are not someone who overspends on makeup, this is a fantastic, cheap option. They are very dupable to high-end stuff. ELF has many versions of blush and bronzer so MAKE SURE YOU SELECT PRIMER INFUSED ONE. Those are the only ones I can claim that they are good. I have not tried anything else.

The bronzer is not too warm, so you will not look orange. Nor is it too gray, so your face won’t look dirty.

The blush is a soft peach that adds that pinched look to your cheeks. Both products are completely matte. No shimmer, no sheen…nothing. So if you’re a working woman (or man) who keeps their face glitter free, these are a great option. Because of my oily t-zone and because I use lots of highlighter on the high points of my face, matte blush and bronzer are a MUST for me personally.

I heartily recommend these. Mostly because for the past month, I have yet to reach into my collection for anything else, any other brand, which if you look below…is not bad.

With that said, where can you buy these?

Target & ULTA is where I’ve seen it. You might wanna try Walgreens or CVS but I have not seen them stock the Primer infused collection. Again, the PRIMER INFUSED part is crucial since they have many other ones.

“Any cons Jovana?” - why sure. Everything has a con. From the stores i’ve been in, I’ve only seen one or two shades of these so if you are a woman of color, these will not work for you. I believe their online store offers more shades.

If you need a new bronzer or blush and don’t wanna spend crazy money, ELF is a great, cheap, cruelty-free choice.

CoverGirl Healthy Elixir Foundation

About a month ago, I teased a foundation on my Facebook that I feel is better than 90% of high end stuff out there and when I tell you I’ve tried it all, its not an exaggeration. With that in mind, take this post and opinion with a BIG grain of salt. What works for me, may NOT work for you. My opinion is not be all end all.

I have problematic, sensitive skin and searching for the right foundation is a chore. I have tried so many, I lost count (NARS, YSL, Marc Jacobs, new Beauty Blender foundation, every single one from Too Faced, Fenty, Armani Luminous Silk, Huda Beauty, Lancome Teint Idole, Kat von D, Tarte, Hourglass Vanish stick, Laura Mercier, Make Up Forever, Urban Decay Naked Skin, Jouer, Estee Lauder, Stellar and more) I realize a lot of these are not cruelty free but keep in mind, I’ve only been cruelty free for little over a year. I do have to add, Estee Lauder Double Wear remains one of the BEST foundations ever, I just quit using it since going cruelty free. And YES, I have returned all these promptly after a week of testing.

From the drugstore, “cheaper” brands I’ve tried: Wet n Wild Photo Focus (smells like paint) Flower Beauty Foundation & Physician’s formula. They are not good.

The day CoverGirl went cruelty free and Leaping Bunny certified, my ass was at Target trolling that isle. Couple of my favorite YouTube beauty gurus raved about this foundation, so I picked it up.

I can with full confidence say that after a MONTH of using CoverGirl Healthy Elixir, its become top 2 favorite foundation ever. I absolutely LOVE it.
I waited a while to promote it just because I wanted to see if I would love it after almost a month and the answer is big, fat yes.

It hasn’t caused me to break out, the coverage is medium so it still looks like my own skin. I have a lot of texture, acne scars, redness, enlarged pores in my t-zone. It gives me an even finish with that luminous glow. As I age, I quit using anything drying or mattifying. I feel that glowy, wet looking, moisturized skin looks youthful and fresh. I’m a glazed doughnut but without looking oily or sweaty. The photos below are just front camera iphone 7 selfies without flash, natural light and absolutely ZERO filters. What you see is what my face looks like.

You can clearly see some texture but thats just my skin and there is no way around it. My skincare routine would shame a serial killer on how organized and specific it is. I REALLY REALLY take care of my skin and still, I break out. Chocolate, stress, lack of water and decent sleep all affect me. All I can do is make sure I have proper treatments, creams and serums, and no matter what foundation I put on, it should look pretty natural. Some foundations are better than others and CoverGirl Healthy Elixir is just that.

My Holy Grail will forever be Smashbox Studio Skin. Healthy Elixir is close second. For $9.99, it will not hurt you to try and maybe just maybe…you can find an excellent face product that won’t destroy your wallet.

I used Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer underneath and dotted the foundation with my finger and used wet sponge to spread it and blend it. The rest are powders and highlighter topped with Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. My skin feels smooth and radiant.

More of a natural light, with some office florescent. No filters or weirdness. Just a plain ol’ front camera selfie.

Photos above are my current arsenal of face foundations. At least the ones i’ve kept. I do not hate the Too Faced ones and I only use Diorskin Forever Undercover in hot summer days at long day events because this s*it will not budge.

To conclude:

I am a high-end makeup fiend. If its drugstore, its not touching my face. I know that sounds elitist as hell but that’s just my personal preference from my own experiences. It speaks VOLUMES that I can heartily recommend a foundation by a drugstore brand, that’s under $10.00 and recently CRUELTY FREE. CoverGirl is a massive brand and to be Leaping Bunny certified is truly a huge step in the right direction and I will gladly support everything they do.

Places where you can buy it:

ULTA - its $12 here, but they always got that $3.50 coupon for their cheaper brands.

WALMART - this is a bit worrisome, but its $5 at Walmart.com. Im not sure if this means its being discontinued or not. I’ll update later once I get the response from CoverGirl.

WALGREENS - $13

TARGET - $4.20 (i seriously hope its not being discontinued or reformulated.)
